Touch Grass Day-Tripper: Wild Creatives (Upcycling)

Explore, create, and connect in nature's boundless playground. Our curated day events are designed to immerse you in the beauty of nature while igniting your creative spark.

Add a personal touch to your favourite bag or a set of keys creating an upcycled charm in this sustainable and beginner friendly workshop.

In this hands on class you’ll learn some basic hand sewing and embroidery techniques to design and create your own personal charm. Using fabric remnants as a way to reduce textile waste, these charms are an eco-conscious way to learn a new skill and make a one of a kind accessory!

This session will be facilitated by Tiana. Tiana Esparon is a Greenwich-based designer, stylist, and maker known for her vibrant, sustainable crochet accessories made using upcycled materials.

A graduate of Kingston School of Art, Tiana has collaborated with brands like Puma and Selfridges, and her work has been featured on BBC’s Make It at Market (Season 3). She has led workshops at renowned institutions including the V&A Museum and Somerset House, sharing her passion for craft, creativity and slow fashion.

This workshop and several others are being hosted to celebrate the launch of our first exhibition, Earth to Us. An archive of queer folk of colour in nature. You can find out more about the exhibition here.

Accessibility

The nearest station is North Greenwich which has step free access. From there to the venue there's one set of steps in the street but there is a ramp option. The ground floor is accessible and has 1 accessible toilet with wheelchair space.

There are 2 steps down to the room we will be using. There is a foldout ramp available which has a 77cm clearance at the bottom of it to navigate the stone firepit in the room. The room we will be using has plenty of soft furnishings and seating.

Touch Grass is an outdoor community for queer women, trans and non-binary people of colour.

We are committed to fostering community growth through outdoor gatherings and wellness-focused trips that encourage us to rekindle our relationship with nature. Our immersive experiences go beyond relaxation — they're about empowerment, healing, and forging meaningful connections.

Our vision is for queer people of colour to see the outdoors as a space where we belong. A 2020 report by Friends of the Earth found that nearly 40% of people from minority ethnic backgrounds in England live in the most green space-deprived neighbourhoods, compared with only 14% of white people — and that people from minority ethnic backgrounds are significantly less likely to spend time in the countryside than white people. We want to change this. We deserve joyful, safe access to the emotional well-being and physical health benefits of nature too.

We believe creativity and nature go hand in hand, which is why most of our events encourage you to embrace nature and your inner creative spirit.
