A trauma-informed, psychologically safe women’s support group in Berlin for exploring emotional overload, mental load, and survival patterns
Joy, Play, and Permission to Feel Good: Moving Beyond Survival Mode & Unlearning Chronic Seriousness
A trauma-informed, psychologically safe women’s support group session in Berlin on overcoming the fear of happiness, relaxing hypervigilance, and reclaiming pleasure, play, and joy without guilt.
About This Event
Have you ever noticed how hard it can be to simply relax, enjoy a quiet moment, or celebrate a win without waiting for the other shoe to drop?
When we have spent months or years navigating chronic stress, emotional labor, perfectionism, or past trauma, our nervous system adapts to survive. It becomes highly skilled at problem-solving, scanning for danger, over-functioning, and anticipating crisis. Over time, "survival mode" becomes our default setting, making state changes toward ease feel unfamiliar, or even unsafe.
For many high-functioning women, joy, playfulness, and rest can trigger a surprising amount of internal resistance:
- Joy vulnerability: The sudden, anxious feeling that if you let your guard down and feel happy, something terrible will happen to catch you off guard.
- Productivity guilt: The quiet belief that your worth is tied to constant output, making unscheduled pleasure or "purposeless" play feel irresponsible.
- Emotional numbness: The reality that when we dull our capacity to feel pain or overwhelm, we unintentionally numb our ability to feel deep delight, awe, and ease.
Here is the psychological truth: Play and joy are not frivolous luxuries. They are biological indicators of nervous system safety.
You do not need to earn the right to feel good, nor do you need to wait until every problem in your life is solved before permitting yourself to experience ease.
"Joy, Play, and Permission to Feel Good" is an emotionally intelligent, trauma-aware support group session designed to help you understand why your body might resist feeling happy, gently discharge hypervigilance, and expand your capacity to hold pleasure, play, and contentment without anxiety or guilt.
What We Will Explore Together
In this 2-hour grounded, warm, and restorative gathering, we will explore:
- The Neurobiology of Joy & Safety: Understanding why a hypervigilant nervous system misinterprets lightness and ease as "unsafe," and how to build biological tolerance for positive emotions (foreboding joy).
- Unpacking "Productivity Guilt": Examining how societal conditioning and caregiving roles teach women to view rest and play as earned rewards rather than essential human needs.
- The Psychology of Adult Play: Rediscovering play not as childish silliness, but as an essential practice of presence, creativity, spontaneity, and nervous system regulation.
- Somatic Expansion Practices: Gentle, non-demanding somatic exercises to help your body safely expand its "window of welcome" for ease, pleasure, and emotional warmth.
- Reclaiming Personal Permission: Guided reflection and journaling to identify what genuinely brings you delight and creating practical, guilt-free micro-moments of joy in your daily life.
Our Core Principles & Emotional Safety

- No judgment or quick fixes. We do not give unsolicited advice or dismiss feelings with toxic positivity. We honor where you are.
