🧠 Lecture: "Inside the Medicine of Formula 1: Stakes, Safety, & Speed"

🎙️ Speaker: Dr. Neil A. Ray

Formula 1 is one of the most-watched sports on Earth—and its medical infrastructure is as advanced as a Level I trauma center, compressed into a pit lane. Keeping drivers and crews safe at over 200 mph demands split-second decisions, improvised clinical environments, and zero room for error.

Join Dr. Neil A. Ray as he pulls back the curtain on what event medicine really looks like at the highest level of motorsport. You’ll explore how medical teams prepare for catastrophic crashes, coordinate with race control, and make high-stakes calls when there’s no clear protocol to follow. Along the way, Dr. Ray will share what these lessons mean for medicine far beyond the racetrack.

Neil A. Ray, MD, is an emergency physician at UCLA and the founder of Sorayn Medical, a physician-led event medicine company. He serves as a trackside physician for Formula 1 teams during US Grand Prix weekends and has covered professional motorsport, traveling orchestras, and large-scale marathons.
