Zikina: Live at The River Room!
Saturday, September 12th, 7:30 PM
Doors open at 6:30 PM
Zikina brings a vibrant, deeply danceable fusion of Ugandan traditional music, jazz, rock, and contemporary groove to The River Room.
Led by Uganda native Gideon Ampeire—an international performer, singer, dancer, educator, and master instrument maker—the band creates a sound that is both rooted in East African tradition and unlike anything you’ve heard before. Gideon performs on the enanga (zither), adungu (harp), and kalimba (thumb piano), instruments he builds himself, weaving their striking voices together with powerful vocals, guitar, bass, and drums.
With Mike Cardozo on guitar and percussion, Roston Kirk on bass, and Kurt Eisele-Dyrli on drums, Zikina moves seamlessly from intense grooves and joyful dance beats to spacious, dreamlike textures. It is music made for listening closely, moving freely, and sharing the moment with the people around you.
Come experience this original, uplifting world-music celebration live in Willimantic.
