Lewis Sheridan Hughes is a direct descendant of Harper's Ferry Raider, Lewis Sheridan Leary, an African-American harnessmaker from Oberlin, Ohio, who joined John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry, where he was killed. You may recognize Chef Lewis from the Long Table events held annually at the John Brown Farm in North Elba, NY

Eugene L. Meyer is an award-winning journalist, author, and a former reporter and editor at The Washington Post. His book Five for Freedom: The African American Soldiers in John Brown's Army was named Best Biography in 2019 by the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
