JOSH BROWN & The Jazz Message - The music of the Jazz Messengers!!
Josh Brown brings a stellar lineup of Ralph Moore, Aaron Janik, Mike Gurrola, Charles Ruggiero & Roy Dunlap to the Birds Stage. Swinging!!
Canadian-born trombonist Josh Brown grew up in Burlington, Ontario, in a musical household led by his music-teacher mother and jazz-enthusiast father. Early success in regional and national competitions led him to study at Humber College in Toronto under acclaimed instructors such as Al Kay and Don Thompson, followed by advanced studies at the Banff Centre for the Arts and the Thelonious Monk Jazz Aspen Snowmass program. Relocating to New York City in the early 2000s, Brown refined his craft under jazz masters Slide Hampton, Steve Davis, and Barry Harris. He established himself as an in-demand soloist and collaborator, earning a semi-finalist spot in the prestigious 2003 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trombone Competition and receiving two grants from the Canada Council for the Arts.
Throughout his career, Brown has balanced dynamic work as a bandleader with extensive high-profile sideman appearances. Beyond his critically acclaimed releases, such as The Feeling of Jazz and work with his Songbook Trio, he toured internationally for nearly a decade as a member of pop vocalist Michael Bublé's band. His versatility across small jazz combos and large ensembles has seen him perform with artists ranging from Freddy Cole to Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, complemented by appearances on major television programs including Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show, and The Late Show with David Letterman.
