A new permanent exhibit is opening at Wistariahurst Museum just in time for back-to-school season! Bring the whole family for a fun-filled afternoon of learning and activities at the opening event for the Skinner Servants’ Room exhibit happening August 29th from 12:00-2:00 pm. Enjoy this new, interactive exhibit, meet real-life Skinner servants themselves (portrayed by museum volunteers), and even take a photo in front of a Model T car!  The Skinner Servants’ Room exhibit will put guests in the servants’ shoes as they learn what life was like for working-class people living in Holyoke. While it’s easy to imagine being wealthy and living in luxury during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, most of us would have been part of the working class, employed by people like the Skinner family either in their factories or in their home. The Skinner Servants’ Room shows visitors what life was like for those who worked for the Skinner family. Visitors will have the chance to perform some of the servants’ tasks, learn about their daily lives, and even dress up for their first shift as a Skinner servant.  During the opening event, guests can pose in front of a real Model T car for photos. Thank you to Wayne Klinge for donating his car for photo opportunities during this event. Wistariahurst volunteers portraying Skinner family servants will interact with guests and guide them through the new exhibit. Thai Food Place will also have their food truck at the opening event, serving up delicious eats for museum guests.  Wistariahurst welcomes visitors to the grand opening of the Skinner Servants’ Room exhibit on August 29th from 12:00-2:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public. After the opening, this exhibit will be open by appointment or as listed on our website calendar.  ¡Se inaugura una nueva exposición permanente en el Museo Wistariahurst justo a tiempo para la vuelta a la escuela! Trae a toda la familia para disfrutar de una tarde llena de diversión, aprendizaje y actividades en el acto de inauguración de la exposición «La habitación de los sirvientes de los Skinner», que ocurrirá el 29 de agosto de 12:00pm a 2pm. Disfruta de esta nueva exposición interactiva, conoce a los propios sirvientes de los Skinner (interpretados por voluntarios del museo) e incluso hazte una foto delante de un carro Modelo T.La exposición «La habitación de los sirvientes de los Skinner» permitirá a los visitantes ponerse en los zapatos de los sirvientes mientras descubren cómo era la vida de la clase trabajadora en Holyoke. Aunque es fácil imaginar cómo era ser rico y vivir rodeados de lujos a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, la mayoría de nosotros habríamos formado parte de la clase trabajadora, empleados para personas como la familia Skinner, ya fuera en sus fábricas o en su propia casa. La «Habitación de los sirvientes de los Skinner» muestra a los visitantes cómo era la vida de los empleados de la familia Skinner. Los visitantes tendrán la oportunidad de realizar algunas de las tareas de los sirvientes, conocer su vida cotidiana e incluso vestirse para su primer turno como sirviente de los Skinner.Durante el acto de inauguración, los asistentes podrán posar para tomarse fotos delante de un auténtico carro Modelo T. Gracias a Wayne Klinge por ceder su carro para las sesiones fotográficas de este evento. Los voluntarios de Wistariahurst, que interpretarán a los sirvientes de la familia Skinner, interactuarán con los asistentes y les guiarán por la nueva exposición. Thai Food Place también contará con su food truck en el acto de inauguración, donde servirán deliciosos platos a los visitantes del museo. Wistariahurst da la bienvenida a los visitantes a la inauguración de la exposición «La habitación de los sirvientes de los Skinner» el 29 de agosto, de 12:00pm a 2pm. Este evento es gratuito y abierto al público. Tras la inauguración, la exposición estará abierta con cita previa o según lo indicado en el calendario de nuestro sitio web.
