Salon de Jeanne d'Arc 2026: Medieval Roots, Modern Muse

The Joan of Arc Project presents its 16th annual conference, the Salon de Jeanne d’Arc,

• October 3rd from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Jefferson Parish East Bank Regional Library in Metairie (4747 W. Napoleon, map)

The free lectures and presentations by scholars, authors and artists are open to the public. Drop in for a particular session or stay all day! Topics cover Joan of Arc, her legacy, her medieval French context, and the French heritage of New Orleans, presented by the Joan of Arc Project, producers of the annual Joan of Arc parade.

Throughout the conference, attendees can meet and greet krewe leaders and members or become a krewe member, and view costumes and other items related to the 18- year-old walking parade that marches each Twelfth Night in the French Quarter on Joan of Arc’s birthday, January 6th. Members may also purchase throws and other krewe merchandise.

In Partnership with the Jefferson Parish East Bank Regional Library

• 9:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Welcome/Meet & Mingle/Coffee & Croissants
• 10:00 a.m.to 10:45 a.m. Puppetry and Pageantry: Pandora Gastalum and Jack Norcross will talk about puppetry in the Middle Ages and demonstrate some of their puppet craft and performance
• 11:00- 12 noon Patron Saints and Popes: Panel from the Archdiocese of New Orleans including Mrs. Betty-Ann Medieros Hickey, Assistant Director of the Office of Worship and Father David Ducote, Director of Vocations and Krewe Member; and an Archivist will discuss the request and process for designating St. Joan an official patron saint of New Orleans and Pope Leo’s New Orleans roots
• 12 P.M. TO 12:45 P.M. LUNCH & UPDATES: You can pre-order a box lunch as an optional add-on through the registration link or bring your own sack lunch.
• 12:45-1:45: What’s for Dinner, Joan? Medieval French Food and Wine, Liz Williams, Author and Founder of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, and Marc Witham, Certified Bordeaux Educator and Krewe member, will talk about Medieval food and wine and do a cooking demonstration.
• 2-3:30: Keynote: Michael Livingston, military historian, the Citadel Military College: Joan of Arc and the 200 Years War
• 3:45-4:30 Système d’Armes historical fencing club demonstration
