A psychological and physical performance exploring the construction and fragmentation of the female self through body, memory and ritual.
PUREBRED is an original psychological and physical performance by Ukrainian actress and theatre-maker Mariia Aristova.
Built from autobiographical material, physical action, text and symbolism, the performance begins with the experience of a woman, but reaches beyond it — into experiences that are deeply human.
PUREBRED explores identity and the ways it is shaped by family, intimacy, objectification and the need to be loved and approved of. At the same time, it enters darker territories: addiction, loneliness, depression, self-destruction and despair — the moments when a person can no longer see a way forward.
The performance does not attempt to offer simple answers. Instead, it moves through these states physically and intimately, searching for what remains when the structures we build around ourselves begin to collapse.
At its centre is a human being trying to survive themselves.
The performance is followed by a post-show discussion with the audience.
