Brooklyn Bridge (Manhattan to Brooklyn) Family-Friendly Walking Tour

Overview

Please join us for a family-friendly all-ages Brooklyn Bridge walking tour. We will be going one way, from Manhattan to Brooklyn. We will leisurely explore a little of the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Brooklyn Overpass) neighborhood and the waterfront area.

Please bring your camera/phone, because you will probably want to take a lot of pictures. We will have also have a fun visual bingo challenge and no-pressure pop quiz questions along the way.

Tour participants will have the chance to learn about the Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO and the greater Lower Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn neighborhoods.

Our tours will focus on history through a progressive lens and we will talk about Brooklyn's cultural/historical significance. We will talk about climate change and coastal resiliency in lower Manhattan, the DUMBO and the greater waterfront Brooklyn area.

We will give a brief overview about both Manhattan and Brooklyn's history including Native American history, African-American history, European-American history and more. We will also learn a little about community health/public health as it relates to lower Manhattan, DUMBO and the greater waterfront Brooklyn area.

Please know sensitive historical topics, including, but not limited to, genocide, slavery, epidemics/pandemics, historical violence/crime, LGBTQ+/race/gender-targeted violence, discrimination, worker injuries and deaths, and other historical topics may be discussed through a progressive lens. Climate change and climate resiliency and environmental health/public health disparities issues may be discussed. Animal health and safety issues may be discussed. There may be mention of poor treatment of animals and animal deaths relating to animals that worked e.g. horses, wild animals, circus animals etc. through a historical context

Kids and adults will have the chance to do no-tech/low-tech visual bingo park game challenge and there will be a chance to answer lots of historical, cultural, nature/science, climate change/coastal resiliency questions and other trivia questions. (No stress!)

Kids will have the option to check out the sights and sounds of DUMBO (and time permitting, we will try to have a visit the playground/greenspace for younger kids .)

All ages are welcome. This is a family-friendly walking tour. This walking tour and visual bingo challenge is best designed for ages 6 and up.

Note:

This is a free walking tour for tourists, visitors, NYC residents and others.

EACH PARTICIPANT UNDER THE AGE of 18, must have an adult (18 + parent/ guardian) present for the entire length of the walking tour/visual bingo challenge.

THIS IS NOT A DROP-OFF TOUR.

Please bring comfortable walking shoes that are appropriate for walking on the Brooklyn Bridge

Walking tour participants will spend the bulk of our time walking on the Brooklyn Bridge. Our group may also walk around the lower Manhattan area, the Brooklyn Bridge, downtown Brooklyn and cobblestones and the DUMBO waterfront area.

This walk requires a moderate to high level of fitness and it is not fully accessible for those using wheelchairs, walkers, strollers and other.

There will be a major bridge, stairs, uneven city streets, cobblestones, uneven park paths,waterfront areas, and uneven walking paths.
