Let's take action for peace as a community! Our theme is "If You Want Peace, Work For Justice."
Aloha
You're invited to the Maui Peace Summit! — a full day dedicated to bringing our Maui community together around a shared question: how do we turn our ideas about peace into real, tangible action?
This gathering brings together voices from across our community for a panel discussion, followed by large and small group conversations designed to move us from talk to action.
Event Details:
- Date: September 26, 2026
- Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Cost: Free
- Format: Hybrid — join in person or via Zoom
- Location: Community Room, 1727 Wili Pa Loop, Wailuku, HI

The focus of our summit is "if you want peace, work for justice." This event is grounded in the belief that peace isn't passive — it's something we build together, deliberately, through justice work.
Meet Our Panelists:
- Kahala Johnson — "The Peace We Planted: Mutual Aid, Direct Action, Community Defense." Dr. Kahala Johnson (he/they/oia) is a Kanaka Maoli political scientist, Kiaʻi organizer, and Movement Medic from Nā Wai ʻEhā, serving as Co-Director and Political Education Coordinator of Maui Medic Healers Hui. His talk explores how mutual aid, direct action, and community defense can dismantle militarization while building community capacity to protect ʻāina.
- Pūlama Collier — A Native Hawaiian scholar, veteran educator, and philosopher known as Kumu Pūlama, she is an early pioneer of the Hawaiian Language Immersion Schools on Maui and a recognized knowledge keeper of Hawaiʻi, with over 35 years of experience in Hawaiian language, culture, and epistemology.
- Steve Phillips — Hawaii representative for PROUT (Progressive Utilization Theory), Steve founded Local Harvest in 2011 to build Maui's local food supply. He now oversees five food-hub businesses that distribute more than two million lbs. of locally-grown produce a year, and played a key role in food distribution to displaced families after the Lahaina fire.
Throughout the day, you'll hear from this panel of speakers, then join both large group and small group discussions — space to reflect, share, and connect with others who care about this work.
This event is for you if you want to take action toward peace. Students, parents, teachers, activists, kūpuna, volunteers, and community leaders — you can make a difference, and we want you at this event.
Whether this is your first time engaging in peace and justice work or you've been at it for years, this is a space to think together, learn from one another, and leave with something concrete to carry forward.
All are welcome. Come be a part of this collective intention for a more peaceful and compassionate world.
