AL/GA - Rewrite the Story: Broken Systems, Lost Sons

Overview

An afternoon of art, film, and healing exploring youth incarceration, grief, trauma, and survival.

Rewrite the Story: Broken Systems, Lost Sons

Rewrite the Story is a community-centered evening of art, film, storytelling, and reflection exploring the lasting impact of violence, grief, trauma, youth incarceration, and survival on families and communities.

The event will feature selections and previews from the full documentary film Broken Systems, Lost Sons, alongside visual art, photography, and creative works from local artists using art as a form of healing, awareness, and expression.

Centered around the experiences of a family impacted by the loss of 15-year-old Zy'kiquiro Lofton (#LLZy) and the continued challenges affecting the surviving siblings and family in the years that followed, the project explores not only tragedy, but the emotional aftermath that continues long after headlines fade.

Attendees can expect:

  • documentary Broken Systems, Lost Sons
  • local artists and community creatives
  • visual art and photography displays
  • community reflection and conversation
  • opportunities to support the featured family and ongoing youth advocacy work

This is more than a screening or exhibition — it is a space for community, healing, awareness, and dialogue through the arts.
