Michigan offers a growing number of funding opportunities to support new housing development, but understanding which programs fit your project—and how to prepare for them—can be challenging. This session will provide an overview of several of the state's primary housing funding resources and how they can be leveraged together to maximize project feasibility.Topics will include:· Michigan State Housing Development Authority's (MSHDA) Mi Neighborhoods Housing and Community Development Fund (HCDF), which provides funding for both nonprofit and for-profit developers to support vertical housing construction· Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) opportunities available to municipalities that can partner with developers to fund public infrastructure and, in certain cases, support housing-related development initiatives· Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) funding programs that support mixed-use developments with residential components· the strategic use of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) as part of a layered capital stack.Participants will gain an understanding of upcoming funding cycles, anticipated funding availability, eligibility requirements, key application components, and practical strategies for positioning projects for success. Whether you represent a municipality, nonprofit organization, or private development team, this session will provide actionable guidance to help you prepare competitive applications and identify the right funding sources for your next housing project.
