Tilly’s Way - Tilita Lutterloh

Tilly’s Way - Tilita Lutterloh

Overview

Eight-year-old Tilly challenges expectations of girlhood while discovering confidence, individuality and the power of her own voice.

Tilly is an eight-year-old girl who unintentionally and unknowingly subverts the status quo of being a girl. Tilly’s Wayexplores the duality within her, body image, identity, individuality, and the journey toward finding her own voice amid the mainstream noise surrounding her. With the unwavering love and support of her mother, Tilly discovers strength and confidence through the very body that takes her to new heights—quite literally—even as others use it to pull her down. In a society that claims to value individuality and self-expression while often rewarding those who stay in line, Tilly chooses the not-so-popular path of becoming her own person. Her imaginative thinking and bold way of being become radical acts. Through the perspective of a little girl learning to trust herself, the piece encourages children and adults alike to become more fully themselves and pursue what they genuinely want.
