In the final installment of France-Luce Benson’s Haitian Revolution Trilogy, she traces hidden connections between Haiti’s devastating “Double Debt” to France and the United States and the trauma that shaped her own sense of self-worth. Through personal narrative, music, dance, and multimedia, Benson weaves Haiti’s economic history together with her complicated relationship with money, creating something simultaneously intimate and epic, heartbreaking and hopeful. This personal and political reckoning confronts how shame, ambition, survival, inherited grief, and history shape how we spend, save, and value ourselves. At a moment when questions of Haiti, reparations, liberation, and historical accountability remain urgent, Worthy challenges inherited narratives while asking one deceptively simple question: What is the true cost of freedom?
