FREE BRICKS - Sonja Marie
An exhausted Black woman searches for freedom, peace and purpose while confronting generational scars and the weight she carries.
FREE BRICKS is a brutally honest portrait of Bricks, an emotionally exhausted and burdened Black woman searching for self-acknowledgment, purpose, peace, and sovereignty. As Bricks unravels her personal hurdles, she considers joining the population of Black women who are disappearing because their Ancestors are rescuing them off the planet. An evolving one-woman show eventually intended to encompass seven characters, the piece explores the many facets of one Black woman’s story and asks how Black women maintain sanity in a complex world. Rooted in pain, victories, generational scars, healing, and truth, FREE BRICKS speaks directly to the emotional exhaustion Black and Brown women have carried throughout decades in America. This is not a story about waiting for permission to be free. It is about taking that freedom, reclaiming peace, reflecting one another’s truths, and gathering the strength necessary to become our unique selves.
