PHonk!Philly presents a percussion workshop with Luciano Xavier Da Silva, born in Salvador, Bahia, where his musical training began in childhood within the Candomblé houses of his upbringing — an environment that gave him a foundation in Afro-Brazilian percussion shaped by ceremonial practice, where rhythm functions as a musical, cultural, and spiritual system tied to the honoring of the Orixás.

Luciano went on to train as a percussionist with Ilê Aiyê and continued through Projeto Axé, studying with Dailha Mendes, Dandha da Hora, Marivaldo, Mario Bomba, and Givaldo Pereira. His practice also extends into dance through Gicá, Projeto Axé's dance company, where he trained with the late Augusto Omolu.

Mestre Luciano now teaches percussion and Afro-Brazilian performance practice throughout the U.S. and internationally. He is co-founder of Bloco Ayedum in North Carolina and collaborates with Festival Afro Bahia – Washington, DC and PHonk!Philly
