Nutcracker: Relaxed Sensory-Friendly School Matinee (December 4th)

We're delighted to welcome you to Roxey Ballet's Nutcracker Relaxed Sensory-Friendly School Matinee on December 4 at 10:00 AM. This special performance is designed to create a welcoming, inclusive, and comfortable theater experience for individuals, families and organizations of all abilities.

The Relaxed Matinee offers a supportive environment with thoughtful accommodations, including adjusted lighting and sound, a welcoming atmosphere, and a sensory-friendly approach that allows guests to enjoy the magic of The Nutcracker in a way that feels comfortable for them.

If you have a group (School, organization or other) of over 20 people, please visit roxeyballet.org/relaxedmatinee to fill out our group RSVP form. An invoice will be sent to you VIA email.

Whether this is your first Nutcracker experience or a return to a beloved holiday tradition, we are honored to share this magical story with you. Below, you'll find everything you need to know to make your visit enjoyable, comfortable, and memorable.

Before You Arrive

We recommend arriving 30–45 minutes before curtain to allow time for parking, finding your seats, exploring the lobby, and getting comfortable before the performance begins.

Prior to the show, families are welcome to take their time settling in, visiting the boutique, and familiarizing themselves with the theater environment.

Arrival & Campus

Friendly volunteers will be available throughout the theater to answer questions, scan tickets, and help guide you to the theater, restrooms, concessions, and lobby areas. Disability parking is available if needed.

Our team is here to help make your experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Sensory-Friendly Experience

The Relaxed Sensory-Friendly Matinee is created with accessibility and inclusion in mind. Guests are welcome to move, vocalize, or step out of the theater as needed during the performance.

A quiet space and sensory tactile corner will be available for guests who need a break from the theater environment. Our goal is to provide a welcoming experience where everyone can enjoy the artistry and tradition of Nutcracker. There will be lowered volume and dimmed lights, storyboards, large print programs, and more for the audience to use.

Cashless Venue

Please note that this is a cashless event. Concessions, merchandise, raffle tickets, and boutique purchases can be made with credit cards or contactless payment methods.

Holiday Lobby Experience

Before the performance begins, enjoy our festive lobby featuring Nutcracker boutiques, Roxey Ballet merchandise, holiday treats, special gifts, and more. Take your time exploring and preparing for the performance.

Meet Santa

Santa Claus is coming to town! Before the curtain rises, guests can enjoy a special visit from Santa and his elves. Find your seats early and capture a magical holiday memory.

Act I

When the performance begins, Clara's magical adventure unfolds—from the joyful Christmas party and the battle with the Mouse King to the breathtaking Journey Through the Land of Snow.

Intermission

Enjoy a 15-minute intermission to stretch, take a break, visit the lobby, grab refreshments, explore the boutiques, purchase merchandise, or return to the sensory-friendly areas before the performance continues.

Act II

Return to the theater for a journey into the Kingdom of Sweets, where Clara meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and experiences dazzling dances from around the world before the unforgettable finale.

Post-Show Q&A

Following the performance, select cast members will join the audience for a special Q&A session. A microphone will be passed around, giving guests the opportunity to ask the dancers questions and learn more about the world of ballet. This unique, one-time experience is the perfect educational addition for young audience members and aspiring dancers.
