Life Drawing for Fashion Illustration Workshop

Welcome to the Mood Fabrics Showroom at Ponce City Market, a dedicated community space for local artists and creatives to gather, share knowledge, and utilize as a creative hub. This specialized workshop is designed for beginners looking to learn traditional yet highly stylized fashion drawing techniques directly from an industry professional.

What You'll Be Doing

Attendees will participate in a structured live drawing session centered around a clothed model posing in fluid, drapey garments. The workshop focuses heavily on accurate fabric depiction and capturing fabric draping on the model's form. You will practice implementing classic design elements—such as altering shoulder shapes, exaggerating silhouettes, and drawing elongated features (like longer necks and legs) to master the typical fashion illustration aesthetic.

The session is paced using strategic time limits. To keep sketching moving efficiently and prevent you from overthinking your work, the class alternates between quick 1-minute, 3-minute, and 5-minute warm-up sketches, culminating in a longer 10-minute focused drawing interval.

What to Bring

This class follows a strict bring-your-own-materials format. To participate, you must bring your own supplies:

• Sketchbooks or drawing paper
• Drawing utensils (preferably charcoal, ink, pencil, or watercolors)
• (Optional) A larger sheet of newsprint, which is highly recommended for building bigger shapes and maintaining a proper drawing distance

Note: If you need to replenish your kit, the showroom does stock marker paper, drawing pencils, and markers on-site available for purchase during the event.

What to Expect

You can expect an authentic, instructional drawing workshop focused on technical growth, figure posing, and design focus. The instructor will keep the room strictly on track using timed sketch intervals, but remains fully available to offer individual, in-depth feedback, go over geometric shapes, and provide technical guidance upon your request.
