A race for slackers, has-beens and underachievers! Come "run" around and eat some hot dogs at DC most prestigious foot race.
The Electric Coney 0.5K is the world's oldest annual race of any distance and ranks as one of the world's best-known road racing events. Attracting an elite field of slackers, nobodys and has beens, the event attracts tens, and possibly dozens of spectators along the route, making it Shaw's most viewed sporting event.
The course runs through 0.5k of winding roads, following 6th Street, R Street, Q Street and 7th Street into the center of Shaw, where the official finish line (also the start line) is located at Electric Cool Aid, down the street from the Shaw Public Libarary.
The .5k Race will be held in heats throughout the day. All entrants must be 21 years or older.
Every entrant will receive: a running bib, tank top, 3 tasty beverages, a hot dog, a participation medal and whatever other swag we can scrounge up. After the races all are welcome to hang out at Electric Cool Aid for an after party.
The race will be broken up into three groups with individual heats occurring every 30 minutes(ish). THE RACE BEGINS AT ELECTRIC COOL-AID.
Group 1 - 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Group 2 - 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM
Group 3 - 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
$5 from each ticket will be donated to Bread for the City.
