This month, #FeedTheHood proudly presents our 2nd Annual HBCU Edition, celebrating the powerful legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their longstanding commitment to education, leadership, service, culture, and community empowerment.

For generations, HBCUs have done much more than educate students. They have developed leaders, strengthened families, advanced social movements, created opportunities, and produced generations of graduates committed to improving their communities. From classrooms and campuses to neighborhoods across the country, the HBCU tradition reminds us that education and service go hand in hand.

The 2nd Annual HBCU Edition of #FeedTheHood brings that spirit of service directly into the community.

The #FeedTheHood Project is a grassroots initiative led by the DC Black United Front and its community partners to help ensure that our neighbors have access to essential resources, including fresh food, clothing, personal hygiene products, health information, and other basic necessities.

But #FeedTheHood is about much more than distributing resources. It is about building stronger, healthier, safer, and more connected communities through collective action.

Throughout the day, volunteers will engage residents in conversations about civic participation and constitutional rights, write letters and cards of encouragement to individuals and families impacted by mass incarceration, connect neighbors with community resources, distribute essential items, and work together to beautify our neighborhoods through community clean-up efforts.

This special HBCU Edition also celebrates the values that HBCUs have carried forward for generations: education, excellence, leadership, service, culture, community, and responsibility to the next generation.

We invite HBCU students, alumni, Divine Nine organizations, alumni associations, student organizations, educators, families, community organizations, and supporters of HBCUs to come together and put those values into action.

Whether you attended Howard, UDC, Grambling State University, Bowie State, Morgan State, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, Morehouse, Spelman, Florida A&M, Tuskegee, or any of our nation's other HBCUs, or simply believe in their mission and legacy, there is a place for you to serve.

Wear your HBCU shirts, colors, Greek letters, and school pride and join us as we show what happens when education, service, and community come together.

Every meal shared, every care package distributed, every neighborhood cleaned, every young person encouraged, and every hour volunteered represents the spirit of service that HBCUs have helped carry forward for generations.
