Poison Control and SUD Update: Emerging Toxicology for Clinicians

Led by Dr. Rais Vohra, UCSF Professor and Medical Director of the California Poison Control System's Fresno/Madera Division. Our presentations will examine the intersection of toxicology, addiction medicine, and health equity. Dr. Vohra will introduce the structure and prevention-focused mission of poison control centers in the US and California; deliver a clinical deep dive into kratom addiction, including the emerging risks of high-potency formulations; and provide an evidence-based update on best practices in treating opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. A 30-minute Q/A session featuring poison control expert, Neliza Pallesco, MPH, CHES.

Neliza Pallesco, MPH, CHES, is the Health Education Program Manager for the California Poison Control System (CPCS), which is operated by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Pharmacy. A Certified Health Education Specialist with a Master of Public Health, Ms. Pallesco specializes in public safety awareness, toxicology education, and community health interventions. She also serves on the Board of Directors for America's Poison Centers, helping guide national poisoning prevention and public education strategies.

This symposium is designed for specialists, internists, family physicians, pharmacists, APRNs, allied health professionals and trainees/students concerned with the latest advances in poison control. New information on identification and management will be highlighted by renowned authorities in the field.
