Legends of Spain: Candlelit Guitar Masterpieces

Legends of Spain: Candlelit Guitar Masterpieces

Overview

Step out of the noise — no phones, no notifications, no screens — and into candlelit Spanish guitar music performed by Piotr Pakhomkin.

For one evening, classical guitarist Piotr Pakhomkin transforms The Lyceum into an old-world salon, performing the great Spanish repertoire — Albéniz, Granados and Tárrega — music built on legend, longing, and flamenco fire. Between pieces, Pakhomkin shares the stories behind the music: the myths, the composers’ obsessions, the Spain that inspired them.

This isn’t a concert you scroll through. It’s 50 minutes of a single instrument in a room lit by candlelight, followed by a chance to meet the artist and ask questions.

Doors at 7:00 PM. Performance begins 7:30 PM sharp. Seating is limited.

Piotr Pakhomkin is a classical guitarist trained under Manuel Barrueco at Peabody, whose 2018 Carnegie Hall debut with the Chamber Orchestra of New York’s Masterwork Series marked the start of a career the Financial Times has called that of a “master guitarist.” WYPR’s Midday on the Arts introduced him on-air as a “virtuoso.” He has performed at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater, Jordan Hall, Panama’s National Theater, and the Phillips Collection. Pakhomkin is a winner of the 2016 Respighi International Soloist Competition and the 2012 Concurso Internacional de Guitarra in Mexico.
