CURTIS SALGADO
Described by NPR as “an icon” with “a huge voice,” Curtis Salgado is revered worldwide for his ability to wring every ounce of soul from every song he performs.
Born in Eugene, Oregon, Salgado grew up surrounded by music. His parents' vast record collection included everything from Fats Waller to Ray Charles, while his older brother and sister introduced him to the soul and blues of Wilson Pickett and Muddy Waters.
In 1977, Salgado became a mentor and inspiration to John Belushi, who was in Eugene filming Animal House. The pair struck up a friendship, with Curtis sharing his knowledge and record collection and introducing Belushi to the blues and R&B artists he loved.
That friendship would help inspire the creation of The Blues Brothers. Their hugely successful debut album was dedicated to Curtis, while Cab Calloway's character in the subsequent movie was named Curtis in homage to him.
Salgado later joined forces with his friend Robert Cray, performing as part of The Robert Cray Band and sharing stages with many of his heroes, including Muddy Waters, Bobby Bland, Albert Collins and Bonnie Raitt. He subsequently fronted Roomful of Blues from 1984 to 1986 before embarking on a stellar, multi-award-winning career that has taken him around the world.
“This type of music moves us the most. You believe it when you hear it.” — Curtis Salgado
Now Salgado brings to Southbound, Leamington Spa his incredible power and presense for an UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT OUT!!!
