Colorado Firearm Safety Course (2 Days) State Required Training

⚠️ IMPORTANT This is a two-day consecutive weekend course. Students must attend both Saturday and Sunday to receive credit and successfully complete the Colorado SB-003 Firearm Safety Course.

Colorado Senate Bill 25-003 (SB-003) established new firearm safety training requirements for individuals purchasing certain semiautomatic gas-operated firearms in Colorado.

Beginning August 1, 2026, most purchasers of covered firearms must successfully complete a state-approved Firearm Safety Course before purchasing an eligible firearm.

This course is designed to satisfy Colorado's training requirements while providing students with a strong foundation in firearm safety, responsible firearm ownership, and applicable Colorado laws.

What You'll Learn

During this comprehensive two-day course, students will receive instruction on:

• Safe firearm handling and operation
• Safe loading and unloading procedures
• Firearm storage and child access prevention
• Colorado firearm laws and legal responsibilities
• Safe transportation of firearms
• Conflict avoidance and de-escalation
• Suicide awareness and responsible firearm ownership
• Situational awareness and decision-making
• Fundamentals of marksmanship and safe firearm use
• Preventing negligent discharges
• Emergency response and accident prevention

Students will also complete the state-required written examination as part of the course.

Who Needs This Course?

This course is intended for individuals who plan to purchase a covered semiautomatic gas-operated firearm under Colorado law. Upon successful completion, eligible students will receive the documentation necessary to apply for a Colorado Firearm Safety Eligibility Card through their local sheriff's office.

This course is not a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP/CCW) class. If you wish to obtain a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit, you must complete a separate CHP training course that meets the requirements of Colorado law.
