Greenbriar Homes Neighborhood Tour

ABOUT THE TOUR
Discover the charm of Sarasota's mid-century architectural heritage on our homes and walking tour through the Greenbriar Homes neighborhood. As you stroll down Greenbriar Street, you will admire signature mid-century elements such as wide, low-pitched gable roofs and wide eaves that cleverly protect interiors from the intense Florida sunshine, paired with picture windows comprised of awning-type panes for optimal cross-ventilation.
Select show houses will have interior access!
ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Greenbriar Homes was conceived by visionary developers Elbert Lloyd "Elk" Kornblum and Leslie M. Heitel, whose corporate entity Greenbriar Builders, Inc. was co-owned and incorporated alongside their wives: Frances Kornblum and Juliette K. Heitel. This historic pocket showcases innovative post-WWII residential design that brought custom-style contemporary features to the middle-income market. Embodying their forward-looking advertising, these properties were designed to "Set the pace for Florida living" and were proudly celebrated as "Sarasota's foremost contemporary homes." The homes also feature integrated carports, dramatic 13-foot beamed cathedral ceilings, and seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces connected by sliding glass doors, all blending block-and-concrete construction, terrazzo floors, and atomic-age aesthetics.
