Join Chief Curator Dan L. Hess on a guided tour of the exhibition US by A&H's Bok Fellows
This A&H curator-guided gallery tour offers a deep dive into the current exhibition US, from its conception through creation to the decisions that determine its presentation. We’ll begin the evening with a 45-minute tour led by our Chief Curator Dan L. Hess followed by conversation with complimentary food for the rest of the evening! Bring a friend, a date, or come by yourself to make new friends who share your interest in the arts.
For more information about our current exhibition US:
“Ours is the wide-open mind with gusts of ideas blowing through it and demanding manifestation.”
Drawing inspiration from Jules André Smith’s 1939 essay, “An Insanitorium of Art,” US embraces Smith’s vision of an artistic practice rooted in inquiry and intellectual openness, and examines how generations of artists have engaged with the Art Center as a site for creative exploration.
The exhibition brings together works by six Bok Fellows from the 1930s and 40s, artists who spent their winters working at the Center, alongside selections by Smith himself. Named in honor of Mary Curtis Bok, whose support was instrumental to the establishment of the Art Center, these historical artists’ works are presented in dialogue with works by nine of our contemporary resident artists, the intellectual and artistic heirs of Smith’s Bok Fellows program.
This evening event is presented during our monthly Last Wednesday hours, when we open our gallery free of charge with a cash bar from 5:30-8pm. Learn more here.
