The Overlook at Bearsville With Emily Nussbaum and Michael Schulman

Join The Overlook’s readers, neighbors, and friends at Bearsville Theater for a special evening with two acclaimed writers from The New Yorker.

Emily Nussbaum and Michael Schulman will join The Overlook’s editor-in-chief, Noah Eckstein, for a lively conversation about the importance of journalism and cultural criticism, and the people and stories that shape American culture. The evening will also feature music by Bruce Milner, light bites, and a gathering of friends and neighbors from across the Catskills.

Emily Nussbaum, a staff writer at The New Yorker since 2011, became the magazine’s theater critic in 2026. She won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for criticism for her television reviews and is the author of “I Like to Watch: Arguing My Way Through the TV Revolution” and “Cue the Sun!: The Invention of Reality TV.”

Michael Schulman has contributed to The New Yorker since 2006, writing primarily about arts and culture. He is the author of the bestselling biography “Her Again: Becoming Meryl Streep” and “Oscar Wars: A History of Hollywood in Gold, Sweat, and Tears,” a New York Times Notable Book of 2023.

This community fundraiser will help The Overlook hire additional full-time journalists and build a lasting, reader-supported news outlet that keeps our communities informed and holds local institutions accountable.
