Learn how the law sometimes sacrifices drinking water for industrial development & how communities can protect the elixir of life.
Finding hope in adapting to climate change can start by focusing on water. Join Jen Powis, Managing Attorney for the Gulf Regional Office of Earthjustice, for a high level overview of how the law protects or sometimes sacrifices drinking water for industrial development and how communities can work together to protect the elixir of life. The talk will also touch briefly on environmental justice principles of community led work with the reference frame around water harkening back to Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech.” Dr. King famously invoked the Old Testament scripture Amos 5:24 when he adapted the verse to declare: "No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream." Time for interactive discussion with the speaker will be provided. This virtual event will use the WebEx platform. Registrants will receive a separate e-mail with WebEx connection details. All registrants will get a link to the recording of this talk. Contact Lisa Brenskelle at gcs.lrc@gmail.com with any questions.
