We Built This is launching the Future Builders Initiative to offer on the job training for vocational students at our local high schools.

The Future Builders Initiative introduces career pathways in the construction trades with hands-on opportunities for students in the Western Foothills, and is designed for regional replication. We piloted the Future Builders Initiative this winter with juniors at Telstar High School who needed on-the-job training for their trades education at Region 9. Students enrolled in the program learn educational design principles and develop curriculum for new We Built This workshops. A diverse representation of professionals serve as mentors in order to encourage participation from young women and other marginalized students. High schoolers will instruct middle school students to test the curriculum, multiplying impact and broadening early exposure to the trades. Graduates leave with leadership skills, and direct connections to trades professionals. We are pursuing funding to continue this program at Telstar and expand our impact to Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School over the next two and a half years. We have received grant support from the Betterment Fund and the Grassroots Fund. We are looking for additional support to hire program coordinators for the Future Builders Initiative and our usual workshop offerings as we expand our impact.
