Innovation Trail — Special Event Marking the Telephone's 150th Birthday
Mr. Watson, come here! Learn about one of Boston's most world-changing inventions and see a museum that's not regularly open to the public.
Ahoy-hoy, lovers of nerdy history!
On this special Saturday morning event, we'll get you inside a museum that isn't ordinarily open to the public: Verizon's museum of the telephone, which contains an incredible collection of early telephone equipment, as well as a recreation of Alexander Graham Bell's lab that was overseen by his assistant, Thomas Watson.
We'll also have a special talk from Daniel Berger-Jones, actor, public historian, and founder of the Boston History Company.
Then, we'll walk together and discuss several other key spots related to telephone history.
When you join us for this special tour, you can purchase a Benefactor Ticket that includes a limited edition embroidered Innovation Trail hat. (See below for photo.)
We start very close to the Bowdoin and Government Center T stops, and end very close to there, near the State House. If you drive, the best parking is at the Center Plaza Garage.
Free tickets to this event are available thanks to a generous grant from Boston 250, a public-private partnership between the City of Boston and private sector partners, including Meet Boston, State Street, The Boston Foundation, John Hancock, Eastern Bank, Liberty Mutual, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and PNC Bank. Learn more at boston250.org.
We are also grateful to the law firm of Fish & Richardson — whose founder represented Alexander Graham Bell — for their support of our telephone anniversary events this year.
