Grand Master Rigan Machado was brought to the United States by the legendary Chuck Norris.

They met in Brazil where Norris became mesmerized by the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the characteristics it possessed, which he then felt compelled to learn, in depth, immediately.


The close quarters grappling/submission style of fighting that Jiu-Jitsu presented, he not only wanted to add to his craft as a martial artist, but to enhance his reputation as an action film star. He quickly became Rigan’s biggest supporter and his first student in the United States.

Meanwhile, in the US, the country was captivated by the striking mastery of Bruce Lee. Jiu-Jitsu and the influence it would have on the culture of martial arts, as a whole, was not yet ready to be unleashed. Regardless, Chuck and Rigan knew that time was close at hand.

As time passed and the world was finally introduced to BJJ, Rigan amassed a record 365 wins and 0 losses in Jiu-Jitsu competition. Setting a record of 19 matches in one day, finishing them all by submission.His training sessions were both technical and intensive under the close eye of his two instructors, Rolls Gracie and Carlos Gracie Jr.
