Join Dr. Akilah Cadet, ASATTCI, and EG SPEAKS  in celebrating Disability Pride Month with zine-making, roundtable discussion, and open mic!

July is Disability Pride Month. Join us in celebrating the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990! This event includes a zine-making workshop, a roundtable discussion, and an open mic night hosted by Dr. Akilah Cadet. EG S.P.E.A.K.S. will be tabling at the event to provide information and resources, and participate in the roundtable discussion.Dr. Akilah Cadet is the Founder and CEO of Change Cadet, a creative organizational development consulting firm that offers services that support embedding belonging into overall company culture, identity, strategy and storytelling (you know what Donald is actively attacking). As a Forbes Next 1000 Entrepreneur and one of San Francisco Business Times Most Influential Women of the Bay Area her work is behind some of the biggest brands you use everyday. Dismantling white supremacy through storytelling is at the core of her work as a leader, speaker, creative director, producer, writer, editor, designer, co-owner of the Oakland Roots and Soul soccer teams, host of Humane Rights podcast and author of White Supremacy is All Around: Notes From a Black Disabled Woman in a White World. She literally has all the degrees, lives in and loves Oakland, CA, celebrates her disability, is a proud Beyoncé advocate, and has an incredible shoe game.EG S.P.E.A.K.S. is a non-profit group that provides community for families and non-legal advocacy for kids with disabilities in the Elk Grove Unified School District.The zine-making workshop will be from 3:30 to 4:30, followed by a roundtable discussion from 5 to 6, and concluded with an open mic night from 6:15 to 7:45.We have a full-service cafe with coffee, wine, beer, food, and snacks. Please, no outside food or drink.This event is hosted by A Seat at the Table Community Initiative.
