Join us for an immersive two-day experience exploring the art, history, and cultural significance of the traditional Mayan backstrap loom. Guided by master artisan and cultural leader Margarita López, participants will learn the foundations of this ancestral weaving technique while connecting with the stories, creativity, and living heritage behind every thread.

More than a workshop, this is an opportunity to engage with sustainable craftsmanship, and experience a tradition that has been preserved and passed down through generations.

Whether you are an artist, designer, textile enthusiast, educator, or simply curious to learn, this workshop welcomes all levels of experience.


What You Will Experience

Day 1

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Workshop Part 1 — History, meaning, and weaving compositions of the traditional backstrap loom in Mexico

Únete a una experiencia inmersiva de dos días para explorar el arte, la historia y el significado cultural del tradicional telar de cintura maya. Guiados por la maestra artesana y líder cultural Margarita López, las personas participantes aprenderán las bases de esta técnica ancestral de tejido mientras conectan con la historia, la creatividad y la herencia viva que existe detrás de cada hilo.
