Live at Chelsea Stage
Amaqui and Luisa Wilson are some of New York City’s most powerful vocalists and songwriters, both inspired by the classics, both performing in junction for a night at Chelsea Stage and Table. The duel acts blend jazz, blues, rock, and pop. Genre bending and hypnotizing, their solo original projects compliment one another’s beautifully and curate a scene in live music that is raw, singular, and steeped in talent.
Born and raised in New York City, Amaqui is a singer, recording artist, and songwriter who has spent years under the influence of New York’s rich artistic scene. Her music is confessional not only in her lyrics, but in her dynamic and commanding vocal abilities. It’s blends dark, cinematic pop, rock, and western blues, with a sultry edge, and strong-will with the soft power of an emotional ballad. She has since gone on to craft her own musical world characterized by soundscapes of grandeur and classic influences such as Freddie Mercury, Steve Nicks, Nina Simone, and Jeff Buckley. Her writing is incredibly introspective, and reveals a deeper understanding of a universal pain in which an audience can connect to.
Hailing from Memphis TN, Luisa Wilson is a singer, guitarist, writer, and pianist who makes music for the pessimistic romantics of the world. Her inner monologue takes the stage as she performs songs that showcase soulful vocals and witty lyricism. Her voice can fill a stadium while still curating intimacy, as her writing is direct and honest; an admission to the complexity of life; anecdotal while still charming. As true vocalist and writer merges into one, the Jazz-pop genre in which she thrives is painted with blues, soul, and modern R&B influences. Evocative, with buoyant melodies and ethereal instrumentation, her music is reminiscent of Amy Winehouse, Olivia Dean, Norah Jones, and RAYE.
