NYC Resistor is a hacker collective with a shared space located in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. We meet regularly to share knowledge, hack on projects together, and build community. A primer on magnetic tape, no-input mixing techniques, tape loops, and analog tape echo. How it works, how to set it up, how to play with it. We'll build a cassette loop and jam with reel-to-reel- and cassette-based echo systems. We'll show how to extend those techniques further with additional digital loopers and feedback systems. This is for:<ul><li>Anyone (not just musicians) who is curious about incorporating analog tape equipment into their adventures in audio,</li><li>Anyone interested in analog electronics and music technology,</li><li>Musicians looking to experiment with strange, non-linear processing and recording techniques,</li></ul> Participants do not need to bring any equipment with them but are encouraged to bring (if possible) the following:<ul><li>something to record with (an instrument, a microphone, a digital recording, another cassette),</li><li>any cables and adapters you might need for the above equipment,</li><li>a blank cassette or two,</li><li>a tape splicing block,</li><li>splicing tape for 1/8" tape,</li></ul> New York native Nat Homer is an experimental electronic musician focusing on analog feedback systems and composition tools.
