What e-waste (electronic waste) can I bring?

Accepted Answer

Computers, monitors, phones, tablets, e-readers, routers, modems, keyboards, mice, cords, chargers, hard drives, circuit boards, printers, scanners, fax machines, TVs, media players, game consoles, cameras, and stereo equipment. No batteries, media, appliances, smoke detectors, or humidifiers.

What textiles can I bring?

Accepted Answer

We accept clean, dry, odorless textiles in any condition, including clothing such as tops, bottoms, coats, pajamas, and baby clothes; shoes and boots; bags, belts, hats, gloves, ties, scarves, bathrobes, jewelry, household linens, sheets, blankets, curtains, quilts, luggage, and stuffed animals.

Is there a limit to how much I can bring?

Accepted Answer

There is no limit on how much e-waste you may bring. For larger drop-offs—7 or more full-sized items like computers, TVs, or printers—please arrive within the first 3 hours of the event. Materials are accepted from households, nonprofits, schools, and small businesses only.

Question 4

What happens to the computers and other equipment that I dropped off?

Accepted Answer

After drop-off, Ecology Center staff sort and pack all equipment, load it onto trucks, and transport it to local facilities operated by our recycling partners, EcoTech Management and WALTER, where the materials are responsibly processed for recycling.

Question 5

What happens to the data on my devices?

Accepted Answer

We prioritize data security. Devices such as older computers, hard drives, and phones are shredded during recycling. Items selected for reuse are wiped during refurbishing. We only work with recyclers that guarantee data security. You may also wipe devices first using free tools like KillDisk or Dar

Can I come to an event to take recycled items for my own projects?

Accepted Answer

No. The collection events are for drop-off only.

Question 7

Can I receive a tax deduction for donating my computer equipment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Please ask one of our staff about getting a tax deduction form when you drop off your e-waste.
