What is THANK A TREE?

A creative outdoor workshop and online participatory platform exploring observation, gratitude, and shared experience beneath the canopy. Participants are invited to draw, write, reflect, and optionally contribute to a growing virtual forest of favorite trees and nature connections.

Who is leading the workshop?

Accepted Answer

Green Religion workshops are educational, participatory, casual, and light-hearted. Led by John DeFaro with environmental artist Lauren Reilly of Living Studio. FLORA of Miami staff will also be available to answer questions about the garden and native plants.

Do I need to be an artist or writer?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. This workshop is designed for all experience levels and focuses on noticing, participation, and creative engagement rather than perfection or technical skill.

What will we be doing?

Participants may draw, write, observe, reflect, photograph, map favorite trees, and take part in simple creative exercises connected to the living world. The workshop will also include a brief introduction to FLORA of Miami, Green Religion, and Living Studio.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothing, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and a phone or camera if you would like to document observations. Water, coffee, light snacks will be available.

Will materials be provided?

Yes. Paper, pencils, and shared creative materials will be available during the workshop.

Is the workshop outdoors?

Accepted Answer

Yes. THANK A TREE takes place outdoors beneath shaded tenting and the canopy areas at FLORA of Miami.

Will I have an opportunity to explore FLORA of Miami Native Garden Center?

Accepted Answer

Yes. FLORA of Miami Native Garden Center will be open during the workshop. Participants are encouraged to enjoy the garden setting, browse the garden center's offerings, and support FLORA through optional purchases.

Is there an age requirement?

Recommended for ages 16 and up. Younger participants are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Is the event free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. This workshop is currently free and open to the public with registration.

Is parking available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Free parking is available close to FLORA of Miami Native Garden Center. Additional metered street parking is also available nearby.

What is Climate AWEARness?

Accepted Answer

Climate AWEARness is an idea developed through Green Religion exploring how awareness, creativity, culture, and what we wear and live with can deepen participation with the living world.

Do I need to stay for the entire workshop?

Not at all. We hope you'll stay for the full experience, but you're welcome to leave whenever you feel finished with your artwork or need to head out.

Do participants keep their artwork and creative work?

Accepted Answer

Participants will leave with the artwork they create during the workshop. Those who wish may also have the back of their artwork marked with the Green Religion Imprint and initialed by workshop facilitators John DeFaro and Lauren Reilly as a record of participation.

What happens if it rains?

If weather conditions require rescheduling, the rain date for the workshop will be Saturday, July 18. Updates will be shared through Eventbrite and social media.

Are restroom facilities available?

Yes. Restroom facilities are available on site for participants.
