A Night of Blues & Poetry with M.L. Liebler and Special Guests
M.L. Liebler reads from his latest memoir, accompanied by the LA Coyote Monk Poetry Band and special guest Bonnie Murray Tamblyn
Detroit poet M.L. Liebler celebrates the release of Hound Dog: A Poet's Memoir of a Revolutionary Poet with a reading from his new memoir. Liebler will be joined by the LA Coyote Monk Poetry Band for a live set featuring Willie Aron, Pat Thomas, Dave & Carolyn Soyars.
The evening also features a special performance by acclaimed Los Angeles singer-songwriter Bonnie Murray Tamblyn, bringing together folk, blues, and storytelling.
About the author
M. L. Liebler is an internationally known Detroit poet, university professor, literary arts activist. He is the author of 20 books, and he is St. Clair Shores’ (his hometown) first Poet Laureate. Liebler has taught English and Labor Studies at Wayne State University since 1980, and he is the founding director of both The National Writer's Voice Project in Detroit and the Springfed Arts: Metro Detroit Writers. He currently directs The Detroit Writers Guild. He received The Barnes & Noble Poets & Writers for Writers Award. His groundbreaking working class literary anthology from The Coffee House Press (Working Words: Punching the Clock and Kicking Out the Jams) and 3 other books have won Michigan Library Notable Book Awards. He is a Fulbright Specialist, a Murray Jackson Creative Scholar and recently received a Distinguished Faculty Award at Wayne State. His new memoir Hound Dog: A Poets Memoir of Rock, Revolution and Redemption was just released in 2026 from The University of Wisconsin Press. About Beyond Baroque
Beyond Baroque is one of the United States' leading independent Literary | Arts Centers and public spaces dedicated to expanding the public's knowledge of poetry, literature and art through cultural events and community interaction. Founded in 1968 as an experimental literary magazine, Beyond Baroque is based out of the original City Hall building in Venice, California. The Center offers a diverse variety of literary and arts programming including readings and workshops. The building also houses a bookstore with a large collection of new poetry books for sale.
Livestream: If you can’t join us in person the event will be livestreamed on Beyond Baroque’s YouTube channel at the scheduled time of the event. If you are tuning in this way, no ticket purchase is necessary.
If you are attending in person, ticket purchase is required. Tickets will be available at the Beyond Baroque bookstore on the day of the event, but we recommend registering in advance through Eventbrite. Masks are encouraged while inside our center. Please arrive early.
