About the Artists & Workshop Instructors
Jodie Chock is a full time visual arts educator at Kalāheo High School. She earned her BFA in Painting at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and is currently a student in the MFA Program at Savannah College of Art and Design. Her work focuses around her cultural identity as a resident of Hawai‘i.
For the artwork exhibited in the Schaefer Portrait Challenge, Jodie used a process that integrated paper cranes into her painting. She has prepared a demonstration of her favorite materials to collage with hand-folded paper cranes.
Patrick Mizumoto is a Honolulu-based artist who trained at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art, with his work influenced by a life lived by the ocean and his personal experiences as a half-Japanese, half-Italian queer man. He has exhibited nationally, with venues in Hawaiʻi including Bishop Museum, Honolulu Museum of Art School, and Capitol Modern Hawaiʻi State Art Museum. He recently won the Juror’s Choice Award in the Hawaiʻi Pride Month Portrait Exhibition 2024 at Manini Gallery.
