Hannah Frances with Louisa Stancioff

Hannah Frances (b. 1997) is an internationally acclaimed vocalist, guitarist, composer, and poet that NPR’s Ann Powers calls “a stunning vocalist and songwriter, making monumental and mythic music.” Frances was awarded Pitchfork’s Best New Music for her critically acclaimed 2024 album Keeper of the Shepherd and Best Albums of 2025 from the likes of Pitchfork, Paste Magazine, NPR, and Stereogum for her latest album Nested in Tangles — her first release with Fire Talk Records.

With this distinctive body of work, Frances solidifies herself as an artist of insurgent emotional clarity, committed to personal truth and actualization. On this album, she narrates complex stories of familial estrangement, emotional trauma, and a deepening of her own sense of trust, through a collection of intricate, dizzying, and large-scale compositions. Nested in Tangles spans the realms of progressive rock, avant-folk, and jazz, but remains anchored throughout with Frances’ signature vocal leaps and percussive, polyrhythmic fingerpicking.

A persistent troubadour, Frances lives in Vermont with roots in Chicago, though she is most often touring internationally and nationally, opening for artists such as Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes, Florist, Hurray for the Riff Raff, The Weather Station, Hiss Golden Messenger, Billie Marten, Whitney, and Damien Jurado, among others.

Whether performing as a solo act or leading her full ten-piece ensemble, her mythology spellbinds with an insistent gravity.

Born and raised in rural Maine, Louisa Stancioff has emerged as a gifted writer with a cinematic eye for richly detailed, emotionally-charged character studies. She grew up learning traditional Bulgarian music from her paternal grandfather’s side of the family and reveled in singing American folk and roots tunes with her friends. After years of touring and recording with her previous indie folk band, Dyado, and a dramatic stint in LA in 2020 that inspired many songs and big move back to Maine, she felt compelled to release music under her own name.

Her debut album "When We Were Looking" was released in April 2024 with Yep Roc Records. She has now toured it extensively, opening for renown bands such as Darlingside, Blitzen Trapper, Pokey Lafarge and more, and is in the works of recording her second album.
