Do you renovate buildings in New York City? Then this important webinar is for you and your team. There is a new NYC Existing Building Code coming, and it will impact us all.The renovation of existing buildings in New York City today is regulated by the 2022 NYC Building Code which references the administrative code and previous building codes dating back to 1938. However, City Council is currently voting on legislation that will bring a new New York City Existing Building Code into effect early next year. This new code intends to provide clarity and eliminate grey areas that have been inevitable under today’s regulatory patchwork.The new code will have significant impact on structural design — and consequently all design — related to existing structures. Kyle Twitchell, P.E. of KTA Engineering will introduce us to the important provisions of this new code by walking us through recent structural renovation projects and outlining how the new code requirements would have changed those structural designs.The project types will be familiar to us all:<ul><li>townhouse renovation</li><li>building redevelopment that includes a change of use</li><li>building enlargements — both vertical and horizontal</li></ul>Kyle’s insights promise to be fascinating, informative and useful. He will condense this learning experience into 1 hour, followed by 15 minutes for Q &amp; A.

Kyle Twitchell brings over 20 years of experience as a structural engineer with a breadth of experience in renovations and adaptive reuse projects. His expertise includes office-to-residential conversions in New York City such as 404 Park Ave South, 39 W 37th Street Vertical Addition Study, a variety of private residences and co-op’s, office-to-school expansions for Access Bronx Charter, Equality Charter School, and New Dawn Charter School. Kyle is a registered Professional Engineer in New York and 24 other states. He has served on ASCE’s Code Committee ASCE 7 Loading Standards, SEAoNY Code Committee assisting in code comparison’s between the NYCBC 1968, NYCBC 2008 to International Building Codes in order to develop a cohesive Chapter 16 of the 2014 New York City Building Code. He currently serves on SEAONY’s Professional Licensure Committee. Mr. Twitchell holds a BS in Civil Engineering and a MS in Structural Engineering from the University of Washington.
