Tending Rock Point - Harvesting & Processing

Tending Rock Point - Harvesting & Processing

5 Rock Point RdBurlington, VT
Overview

In this session of Tending Rock Point, we will harvest wild and cultivated food and process these gifts into kraut and pesto

Tending Rock Point is a series of workshops where we practice collaborative stewardship and reciprocity with the land at Rock Point. By integrating agricultural activities and ecological restoration throughout the year, we take a holistic view of land stewardship and find our place as humans in the ecology of Rock Point. In each session, we will spend part of our time learning about a topic and part of the time working on a project together.

As fall approaches and we have spent the season tending areas of the landscape, it is time to receive gifts and be nourished by the land! At one of our Spring Tending Rock Point gatherings, we prepped gardens beds to be planted with kraut ingredients like cabbage, carrots, radishes. By August, the first round of these crops will be ready to be harvested! We'll combine them with onions, garlic, ginger, and salt and learn how to preserve this food with fermentation and each take some home. If there are enough of us, we may divide up and harvest berries or gather other wild foods.

Bring water, snacks, and clothing that can get dirty!

We will meet across from the main trail parking lot at 5 Rock Point Road. From that parking lot (by the brick building), look East toward the gardens and solar panels. We will gather by the outdoor classroom structure near the cob pizza ovens.
