The Torah in the Tarot: Full Review from Aleph to Tav with Stav Appel

Ayin Press

Inaugural Class from Ayin Institute: July 29– Aug 19 from 8-9:30pm EST

What if one of the oldest Tarot decks in existence was secretly Jewish all along? That's the provocative argument at the heart of Stav Appel's newly published The Torah in the Tarot (@torah.tarot). Appel contends that the Jean Noblet deck (Paris, 1650) — among the earliest preserved Tarot decks — contains a depiction of the language, rituals, and beliefs of Judaism, hidden in plain sight. If he's right, it changes everything we thought we knew about the history of the Tarot.Ayin Institute is proud to launch its first class: a four-session series with Stav Appel, diving deep into The Torah in the Tarot. Together, we'll explore:

All 22 Major Arcana of the Noblet Tarot

The Hebrew letters, Torah narratives, Judaic ritual objects, and Jewish holy days hidden in the deck

The history of the Tarot, from its origins in Renaissance Italy to its rise as a global cultural phenomenon

How the secret Judaica of the Noblet was later restored as openly displayed Cabala in the decks of the Golden Dawn

Along the way, we'll sit with the new questions and mysteries that emerge when we recognize the Judaica of the Noblet deck.Week by Week SyllabusSession 1: July 29nd

The early history of Italian playing cards and the Tarot

The 22 Hebrew letters of the Noblet

The Holy Office of the Inquisition and Crypto-Judaism

Session 2: August 5th

Kabbalah, Cabala, Qabala — the evolving face of Jewish mysticism

The 10 Jewish holy days of the Noblet

Ferrara: birthplace of Tarot and center of Crypto-Jewish activism

Session 3: August 12th

The Golden Dawn cipher

The Noblet's secret collection of Judaic ritual objects

Sabbatai Zevi and Jacob Frank

Session 4: August 19th

The Judaica of the RWS, Golden Dawn, and Hermetic Tarots

The secret names of God in the Noblet and RWS Tarots

The Noblet: tool for Jewish education or mystic work of art?

The open historical questions

This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from the researcher who made this illuminating discovery.
