Open Table Skill Share: Zine Workshop: Gender Joy & Futures to Grow Old in
Learn self-sufficiency skills at ASATTCI's monthly workshops! This month, learn how to make your own zine to celebrate queer joy!
At this community-centered skill share hosted by ASATTCI, explore the power of zines and create personal and political art in community. This session will offer the theme “Gender Joy” or “Futures to Grow Old In,” (as offered by Chrysalis4TransYouth from this year) to get participants thinking about what joyful and safe worlds we might create, either in personal relationship to our own gender, or in relationship to the world at large.
Beginning with a short discussion on zines as a tool for storytelling and resistance, the workshop will guide attendees to think about their relationship to both their own gender and to gender as a concept. After a short brainstorming period, participants will create their own zine, using the theme as reference. Attendees will be able to discuss their choices throughout the workshop, building community through shared art and conversation.
This workshop requires no prior artistic experience.
About our host: Cait (she/her) is a PhD Candidate studying the relationships between gender, sexuality, and the far-right. Her work includes publications on anti-trans ideologies and their spread, the relationship between settler colonialism and gender, and how digital spaces work to facilitate radicalization. When not working on her research and writing, Cait is probably reading or cooking. Ask her about her book mantle!
