Gain a clinical framework for navigating infidelity, understanding context, holding both partners' experiences, and supporting recovery.
After an affair is discovered, the questions multiply fast: Who gets access to what information? How much does a betrayed partner have the right to know and demand? What happens to the children? And how does a therapist hold both people's humanity in the room at the same time?
With 40+ years of clinical practice and 40,000+ sessions, Dr. Marty Klein is one of the field's most trusted voices on sexuality, infidelity, and couples work. This three hour training offers clinicians a fresh, grounded framework for one of the most emotionally charged experiences in the therapy room. Attendees will earn 3 continuing education credits upon completion.
This course is designed for mental health professionals who work, or are interested in working with individuals or couples navigating infidelity. It is well-suited for clinicians who find themselves unsure how to hold both partners' experiences, uncertain about the Betrayer's role in treatment, or looking for a more structured framework for these complex cases.
Objectives:
- Reframe the power dynamics: Examine why positioning one partner as unconditionally wronged and the other as indefinitely indebted often harms both parties and derails treatment.
- Understand the context of infidelity: Explore the relational and psychodynamic factors that contribute to affairs, helping the Betrayer develop genuine insight rather than just remorse.
- Navigate the aftermath of betrayal: Identify the emotional landscape on both sides from powerlessness, grief, rage, disorientation, to damaged self-esteem.
- Support recovery and renegotiation: Help couples and individuals move from crisis toward healing, including the often-avoided conversation about sexuality after betrayal.
