Outdoor Recreation Themed Trivia and Mural Project Overview

Mural Project Overview

The Grade to Gate Foundation, a Groveland-based 501c(3) charity, is dedicated to enhancing and sustaining the beauty of the Highway 120 corridor from the top of Priest Grade to the west gate of Yosemite National Park. They are responsible for the beautiful flower planters and functional trash collectors dotted along Groveland’s Main Street.

In celebration of America’s 250th birthday (our semiquincentennial!), the Grade to Gate Foundation has commissioned a mural to be painted on Around The Horn Brewing Company’s building. This 65’ by 9’ mural will cover the span of the building on the Wards Ferry Road side.

The mural features five vignettes depicting outdoor recreation activities beloved by our region. Each vignette will be painted by a local artist and is sponsored by a local business. A sixth vignette pays tribute to the United States of America.

You can get involved, too, by sponsoring a mosaic star on the mural’s skyline. These mosaic stars will be made by local artist Barbara Bussler and each star will feature the name of the sponsor. More details about star sponsorship will be shared at the event.

Outdoor Recreation Themed Trivia

Trivia rounds will focus on trail biking, flying, horseback riding, fly fishing, and river rafting. Each round features questions provided by the mural sponsors: Groveland Trail Heads, Yosemite Flights, Firefall Ranch, Echo Cooperative, and Sierra Mac River Trips.

Trivia will begin at 6:15 pm. It is FREE to play and all supplies are provided! Prizes will be awarded to the top three highest scoring teams! Maximum six people per team. All ages are welcome to play.

Before each round of trivia, the local artist painting the corresponding vignette will give a brief overview of their work.

BBQ Dinner Fundraiser

As part of the fundraising efforts for the mural, the Grade to Gate Foundation will be hosting a BBQ dinner during the trivia night. Meals are $25 and include:

You can purchase your meal ticket via Eventbrite, or you can buy in person at Around The Horn to avoid processing fees. However, supplies are limited and we may sell out, so if you want a guaranteed meal, buy in advance!

BBQ will be served from 4:30 pm to 7 pm.
