3-hour CEU workshop exploring the intersection of trauma & substance use. Practical tools for licensed clinicians. NBCC approval pending.
A 3-hour NBCC Approved CEU workshop for licensed mental health clinicians ready to understand what is really driving their clients' substance use.
Date and Time: Saturday, September 19, 2026 | 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM EST Virtual — Zoom (link provided upon registration)
Event Description:
Most clinicians are trained to treat trauma or substance use. Very few are trained to treat them together — even though they almost always show up together.
Crossroads of Pain is a 3-hour continuing education workshop that explores the intersection of trauma and substance use from a clinical, neurobiological, and strengths-based perspective. Developed and facilitated by Ashley Dunn, MS, LCMHC, LCAS, CSI — a dually licensed trauma therapist and addictions specialist — this workshop gives clinicians the framework, language, and practical tools to identify and treat the trauma underneath their clients' substance use.
This is not a surface-level overview. This is a clinically rigorous, practically focused training built from real private practice experience working at the intersection of these two fields every single day.
What You Will Learn
- How trauma and substance use interact neurobiologically and clinically
- Why traditional substance use treatment often fails clients with unrecognized trauma
- How to identify trauma responses in clients who do not identify as trauma survivors
- Practical assessment approaches for the trauma and substance use intersection
- Evidence-based treatment modalities — ART, IFS, CBT, and DBT — applied to co-occurring presentations
- How to build trauma-informed treatment plans that address substance use without re-traumatizing clients
- Ethical considerations when working at the intersection of mental health and addictions
- Case conceptualization frameworks you can apply immediately in your practice
