Shutter and Sound Opening Reception
Come experience the Jazz Photography of Bob Willoughby through Shutter and Sound
Shutter and Sound: Opening Reception
Join us on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM–8:00 PM for the opening reception of Shutter and Sound, featuring the photography of Bob Willoughby. Enjoy a casual evening viewing experience with a cash bar and appetizers as guests explore this dynamic exhibition celebrating the history, movement, and spirit of jazz.
By the 1950s, jazz had firmly established itself across America, traveling from the streets of New Orleans to cities coast to coast. As the world evolved, so did jazz—and one of its most influential scenes emerged in Los Angeles. Known for its distinct sound and cool atmosphere, the West Coast jazz movement helped shape what many recognize today as the roots of “smooth jazz.”
Presented at the historic Ritz Theatre and Museum in the heart of LaVilla—once celebrated as the “Harlem of the South” and an important stop on the Chitlin’ Circuit—Shutter and Sound offers a powerful setting to experience this remarkable collection of jazz photography.
Come enjoy an evening of music history, culture, and community through the lens of one of jazz photography’s most iconic visual storytellers.
