National Plant Monitoring Scheme Course
Join local ecologist Neill Talbot of Avellana Ecology to learn how to identify wild flowers. Neill will show you how to carry out surveys for Plantlife’s National Plant Monitoring Scheme (NPMS) and will advise what you’ll need to be able to set up your own plot in your local green space.
The course will include the following:
- how to set up a survey plot, including mapping methodology
- how to identify indicator species of different habitats, including grassland and woodland species such as Betony, Knapweed and Enchanter’s nightshade
- how to assess habitat type, and record abundance and vegetation structure
You will need to bring:
Notebook and pen
Wild flower identification book (if you have one)
Handlens or magnifying glass (we may have one you can borrow)
Food and drink for the day
Sunscreen
Date: 5th July (reserve date in case of bad weather - 11th July)
Time: 10.30 am to 3.00 pm (including 30 minute lunch break)
